Videos in private and quarantined subreddits can't be fetched. Content that needs a login to view needs one to download, and we never ask for yours. Crossposts download from the original post's video. External links (YouTube, Streamable) shared on Reddit aren't Reddit videos, paste those into the matching tool, like the YouTube downloader.
When a Reddit video genuinely has no sound
Merging the separate v.redd.it streams fixes the usual silent-file problem, but a few Reddit videos have no audio track to merge in the first place, and no tool can add one. The common cases are converted GIFs (Reddit turns uploaded GIFs into silent MP4s by design) and clips the poster uploaded muted. If your download is silent, check whether the video plays with sound on Reddit itself. If it is silent there too, the source has no audio and the MP4 you have is correct.
Post types that need a different link
- Gallery posts, a post with several media items downloads the video you linked; open the specific item if the gallery mixes images and clips.
- old.reddit.com links work exactly like modern ones, as do redd.it shortlinks.
- NSFW-gated posts that require an age confirmation behind a login cannot be fetched, the same rule as private subreddits.
- Streamable, Imgur or YouTube links posted to Reddit are hosted elsewhere; paste those into the tool for that platform instead.
