Download X (Twitter) videos in HD
X has no download button for video, not even for your own posts. Paste the link of a public post here and you get the video as an MP4 file that stays yours after the post is deleted or the account is gone. It works the same with x.com and twitter.com links.
X stores each video as a few direct MP4 copies and a separate streaming copy. This tool takes the direct MP4 at the resolution you pick, because it carries the video and the sound in one file at a higher bitrate than the streaming copy of the same size. Most posts go up to 720p, some to 1080p, and none go higher than the file the poster uploaded.
Every size is a real file size
Once the link is read, each resolution X has for that post is listed with its exact size, measured from X's own servers rather than estimated. Take the sharpest copy for an archive or a small one to send in a chat. Square and portrait posts are listed by their short side, so a 720p option is 720 pixels on the short side whatever the shape.
X video to MP3
Switch to the MP3 tab to keep only the sound: a speech, an interview clip, a song someone posted or a podcast snippet. The MP3 is cut from the post's own video file, with the title and cover filled in, and you can trim it to just the part you need before saving.
GIFs, replies and quoted posts
A GIF on X is stored as a short looping video, so it saves as a small MP4 rather than a .gif file. A video in a reply works like one in an original post, as long as the account is public. For a quoted post, open the quoted post itself and copy its link, because the video belongs to that post rather than to the one quoting it.
What works and what does not
Public posts work. Posts from protected accounts do not, because they need a follower's login, and we never ask for your X account. A post with only text or photos has no video to save, and the page tells you so rather than showing an error. Spaces and live broadcasts are different formats and are not covered.
Why people save videos from X
Posts disappear, and a deleted post takes its video with it. Journalists and researchers keep clips of statements and breaking news they may need to cite later. People keep their own videos, because X compresses uploads and has no export. Others save a video alongside screenshots when they archive a conversation.
